Moderate five-magnitude earthquake strikes eastern Pakistan
A moderate five magnitude earthquake struck eastern Pakistan Wednesday, with tremors felt in several cities, but officials said there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. The quake was felt in several eastern cities including Lahore, Kasur, Okara and Sialkot, he said.   

Pentagon, State Department silent on threatening reports outlining Chinese plans for nuclear attacks on U.S. cities
The Obama administration declined to comment on Sunday on provocative state-run Chinese media reports outlining Beijing’s nuclear war plans, including land-based and submarine-launched missile strikes on U.S. cities that would kill up to 12 million people. State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf and Pentagon spokeswoman Cynthia Smith would not respond when asked about the highly unusual Chinese reports published Oct. 28 in numerous major Communist Party-controlled television and newspaper outlets. The Chinese reports included maps showing nuclear strikes on Los Angeles and the Pacific Northwest, along with the resulting radiation plumes stretching thousands of miles across the western United States.

Colorado rural counties are voting on secession from state
Voters in 11 of Colorado’s 64 counties cast ballots Tuesday on whether they want to secede from the state – and they're not alone. Two counties in northern California are preparing a petition to break off from that state in 2014. Maryland’s five conservative western counties are mounting an initiative to break away. 
 
Despite rifts, Kerry remains upbeat on peace talks
US Secretary of State John Kerry waded again into the nitty-gritty of faltering Israeli-Palestinian peace talks on Wednesday, saying he was optimistic that tensions and difficulties could be overcome, even as Israel’s leader bashed the Palestinians for the poor state of negotiations.

Jerusalem: Mass Demolition of Illegal Arab Buildings in Works
On Monday the Jerusalem municipality demolished a church-owned property in eastern Jerusalem, according to AFP reports. Following the demolition a statement revealed that mass demolitions of illegal Arab buildings are on the way. The demolition Monday began as security forces arrived with an order stating the structure, owned by the Roman Catholic church and housing a family of 14, was built without a permit.

DHS to Hire “Top Secret” Domestic Security Force
The Department of Homeland Security is to spend $19 million dollars on a private security force in Wisconsin and Minnesota, an armed unit that must have a “Top Secret” security clearance according to an official solicitation.   

North Texas records 2.6 magnitude earthquake
North Texas has had another minor earthquake. The U.S. Geological Survey says the 2.6 magnitude earthquake hit at 9:32 p.m. CST Tuesday and was centered a mile east-southeast of Reno, in Parker County. The area is about 20 miles northwest of Fort Worth.   

USGS: 2 earthquakes strike near Oklahoma City
The U.S. Geological Survey says a 3.9 magnitude quake was recorded at about 10 p.m. Monday near Jones. The USGS says the earthquake's epicenter was located three miles west-northwest of Jones and eight miles east-southeast of Edmond. A second earthquake was recorded at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday near Spencer. The USGS says the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.2 and was centered four miles northwest of Spencer and eight miles north-northeast of Oklahoma City.   

Kerry aims to revive Israeli-Palestinian peace talks
US Secretary of State John Kerry is to meet Israeli and Palestinian leaders in an attempt to inject momentum into peace talks launched three months ago. "I come here without any illusions about the difficulties, but I come here determined to work," Mr Kerry said. The talks, due to end next April, have shown little sign of progress. Mr Kerry has denied media speculation that he may propose a new interim peace deal. 
 
General strike against cuts brings Greece to a halt
Workers in Greece are holding a 24-hour general strike over continuing cuts as international lenders decide whether to unlock further bailout money. Flights and other transport are being disrupted by action in both the public and private sectors, and schools and hospitals are also affected. Greece has held more than 30 general strikes since early 2010.   

ADL finds Americans support Israel, but oppose US involvement in peace talks
The majority of Americans consider Israel a trusted ally but believe the US should play only a “minimal” role in peace negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians, according to a public opinion survey released by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on Tuesday. The announcement that 62 percent of Americans believe “it is up to the Palestinians and the Israelis to solve their own problems”... 
 
Typhoon Haiyan gaining strength, heading towards Philippines
Typhoon Haiyan is intensifying as it continues to move across the northern Pacific, packing winds of up to 240 kilometres per hour. Forecaster Michael Ziobrol, from the US National Weather Service, says the typhoon is expected to affect parts of Micronesia later on Wednesday.   

Blasts at China regional Communist Party office kill one
A series of small blasts have killed at least one person outside a provincial office of the ruling Communist Party in northern China, state media report. The blasts in Taiyuan in Shanxi province appeared to have been caused by home-made bombs, Xinhua reported. It said eight people had been injured and two cars damaged.   

US oil hits 5-month low on worries about supply glut
The benchmark US oil price sank to a five-month low Tuesday as traders anticipated a key report will show US supplies are continuing to pile up. New York's main contract West Texas Intermediate for delivery in December sank $1.25 to close at $93.37 a barrel, its lowest level since early June.  

U.S. skeptical of Syria chemical arms declaration: U.N. envoy
The United States is reviewing with skepticism the Syrian government's chemical arms declaration, the U.S. envoy to the United Nations said on Tuesday as another official cautioned that intelligence suggested Syria may try to hide some weapons. Under a Russian-U.S. proposal, Syria agreed in September to destroy its chemical weapons program by mid-2014, averting a threat of missile strikes by Washington following an August 21 sarin gas attack in Damascus that killed hundreds of people. 
 
Democrat McAuliffe narrowly wins Virginia governor's race
Democratic Party insider Terry McAuliffe won the Virginia governor's race on Tuesday by narrowly beating Republican Ken Cuccinelli, a Tea Party favorite who seized on the rocky launch of the U.S. healthcare program to try to keep the contest close. State election board results showed McAuliffe, a Democratic fundraiser and close friend of former President Bill Clinton, had 48 percent of the vote to 45 percent for Cuccinelli, Virginia's attorney general, with almost all precincts reporting.
