Efforts by the United States and Afghanistan to finalize a long-term security arrangement appeared on the brink of collapse Monday as Afghan President Hamid Karzai made a new set of demands, and the Obama administration said it would be forced to begin planning for a complete withdrawal of U.S. forces at the end of 2014.

Desperately Seeking Obama
For months the problems of ObamaCare have dominated politics in Washington. The botched rollout of the individual mandate part of the law, the loss by millions who have had their policies cancelled, the inability of the main web site to function properly, have led to a political disaster for President Barack Obama, whose popularity has sharply declined. Similarly, in foreign affairs during the last year he resembled Hamlet in the White House, experiencing difficulty in making up his mind to decide on a policy on Syria. On both domestic and foreign policy Obama’s credibility has been challenged.

General: Obama purposely weakening U.S. military
A former deputy commanding general of the U.S. Pacific Command says President Obama seeks to “seize control over national security” and, bypassing Congress, singlehandedly weaken the U.S. military. Army Maj. Gen. Paul E. Vallely, retired, charges in a 21-page position statement made available to WND, titled “The Obama Military – Evolution and Legacy,” that Obama already has begun working with Russia to reduce nuclear weapons without a treaty, which would require Senate ratification.

Interim deal on Iran splits Congress on new sanctions
For all the disappointment they expressed following the deal on Iran’s nuclear program, skeptics in Congress appear to be willing to give the agreement brokered by the Obama administration space to breathe — albeit with tough new punitive measures in place should Iran fail to live up to its end of the bargain.

Fenton laid the blame for the epidemic squarely on the two most obvious characteristics of homosexual sex: anal intercourse and promiscuity. The UK's National Director of Health and Wellbeing warns that there is an increasing and potentially catastrophic HIV epidemic in homosexual men in every part of the world.

Altar in Shiloh Found in Israel
A stone altar dating from the Iron Age was accidentally discovered near the remains of an ancient wall during a dig in Judea, according to the Unity Coalition for Israel. Apparently the altar was moved from its original location in Tel Shiloh; its discovery is the first physical evidence that Shiloh had served as a religious center prior to the First Temple period.

Obama’s failure of moral courage
But leadership comes down to moral courage. Now, with the Iran deal the loser is not just the State of Israel. It is the leadership of President Obama. We’re back to an American foreign policy prepared to make deals with terror funding states, unfreezing billions of dollars in assets for a temporary halt to their nuclear ambitions.

'Gate to Hell' guardians recovered in Turkey
Archaeologists digging in Turkey have found the guardians of the "Gate to Hell" -- two unique marble statues which once warned of a deadly cave in the ancient Phrygian city of Hierapolis, near Pamukkale. The sculptures were found as archaeologists further excavated the area where in March they unearthed the remains of the Plutonium, which included an inscription dedicated to the deities of the underworld -- Pluto and Kore.

Pope, Putin chat for 35 minutes, then both kiss icon of Madonna that Putin presents as gift
Vladimir Putin showed off his religious side during a visit Monday to the Vatican, stopping to cross himself and kiss an icon of the Madonna that he gave to Pope Francis. But Moscow's improving relations with the Vatican went only so far: Putin didn't invite Francis to visit. The Vatican said Monday that ecumenical relations between the Catholic and Orthodox churches weren't really discussed during the 35-minute discussion between Putin and Francis in the pope's private library, though Putin brought greetings from Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill.

Mysterious wave freaks fishermen
“It came up to nearly the high water mark,” says Grahame. “It was low tide, it was about half past five and it brought the Kontiki in and laid the lines up the beach. It came in - it wasn’t just a wave it was like a tsunami. “It was quite frightening really. First time I have been fishing on the beach when that’s happened. The tide came in and it stayed in for three or four minutes, then it just drained straight out like a huge vacuum cleaner. It was quite substantial.

Canterbury earthquakes were highly unusual
The research, led by seismologist Martin Reyners of GNS Science, showed the unusual rock structure of the region meant the Canterbury earthquakes produced some of the strongest vertical ground accelerations ever seen in an earthquake. The makeup of this unique dense and thick slab of rock could have implications for other regions around the lower South Island.

Bolton: Israel must make 'fateful decision' on Iran strike
“Israel, I think, now faces the fateful decision whether it will allow Iran to get nuclear weapons, thus constituting a true existential threat to Israel,” he said. “Or whether they will strike as the Israelis have done twice before against nuclear programs in the hands of hostile states,” Bolton told WABC Radio’s Aaron Klein.

Bachmann uncorks on Obama, Armageddon
Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., cut straight to the heart of the matter when WND asked her what the nuclear deal with Iran will mean. “The major nations of the world have chosen to fail to thwart Iran from gaining a nuclear weapon. It is a blunder of such great proportion, history will record it’s folly,” she ruefully predicted.

New Law in Egypt Effectively Bans Street Protests
Egypt’s military-backed government has issued a law that all but bans street protests by applying jail time or heavy fines to the public demonstrations that have felled the last two presidents and regularly roiled the capital since the Arab Spring revolt. The new law...is the latest evidence of a return to authoritarianism in the aftermath of the military takeover that removed President Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood in July.

Obama takes on hecklers to doubles down on immigration reform claiming it would boost economy and shrink deficit
During a token policy appearance Monday in San Francisco, President Obama railed against Republicans for standing in the way of his 'comprehensive' immigration reform plans that would extend an amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. 'We've got to finish the job,' Obama said, referring to bipartisan legislation that passed the U.S. Senate in June but has long stalled in the House.
